Baltimore Midnight Ridaz

This was posted on myspace. Just passing it along.....

Seriously, who doesn't like to bike at night? "Baltimore Midnight Ridaz" is essentially a less political version of Critical Mass (people biking around in a big group) that happens after the sun goes down and the moon comes up. I went on a couple of the rides in L.A. and it was amazing! Now I want to transplant the idea in Baltimore, but need some people to do it...

The first ride is set for Friday, April 21st at 10:00 p.m.! Everyone should meet near the north end of the Safeway parking lot at 25th and Charles and we'll decide on a route from there. It's going to be tons of fun. Here's what you should do...

Baltimore: The City of Firsts

Besides this list: http://www.ci.baltimore.md.us/faq/firsts.html;

Baltimore has a new first (at least in this state) in that it had the first Bicycle Advisory Committee meeting whose attendees ALL arrived by bike. This just goes to show you the level of dedication of those who are trying to make Baltimore a better place to bike (ether that or it was a really nice day yesterday.)

Some 75 miles of connecting streets are closed to traffic from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. As many as 2 million people pour forth to walk, cycle, Rollerblade, jog and simply socialize in communal peace.

No cars. No pollution. No gridlock. No roar of traffic.

"Ciclovia," as it's known, is the world's biggest block party, an urban transformation that borders on magical.

"It's like everyone puts on a new suit of clothes," says Cantori.

A thought quickly ballooned in his brain: Why not export the idea to Maryland?
