Pet control is the big lesson in poodle saga

The first lesson is for Tippett: Jacquelyn is a poodle, madam, not your &quot;little girl,&quot; as you referred to her in the news story. Dogs, while they have a reputation as bright animals, do have some limitations on their intelligence.

If I had been in the jogger's spot, I might not have kicked Jacquelyn. But I would have tried to explain the situation to the pooch in clear English.

&quot;I'm a 200-pound man. You're a 4-pound poodle. I have a large foot that can kick you several feet. Do the math, dog. Do the math.&quot; The math for humans versus poodles confrontations comes to, I suspect, something like Humans 3,247, Poodles 0.

But dogs can't do math. That's the point. That's why we have leash laws.

<img width="126" height="120" align="left" src="http://www.baltimorespokes.org/images/articles/20060131142114929_1.gif" alt="">For many kids today, particularly those living in the suburbs, life can be one long shuttle between school, soccer practice and the mall. A generation of children who grow up dependent on being delivered to their destinations by car is less likely to make sustainable transportation choices later in life. More trips by car not only has a direct impact on air pollution and but can also foster obesity, lung disease and other symptoms of poor health. Kids are the

Random thoughts

Pedestrian injuries are the norm, not the exception, on city streets big and small.

The best way to build forgiving streets is to erect buffers, in both space and time, between fast-moving drivers and much more vulnerable bicyclists and pedestrians.

Engineer's bike goes 0 to 60 mph in five seconds

In place of synthetic rubber fuel, however, the bike uses ordinary roofing tar. To ignite it, Pickens placed a model-rocket motor inside the engine. A button on the handlebar fires the model-rocket motor, which in turn sets off Pickens's larger motor by lighting the roofing-tar fuel.

Stolen bikes

Hi all -

Several very expensive bikes have been stolen from my store. Please look out for them. I am offering a reward for the return of each and any of them.

I am especially interested in catching the thief.

If anyone knows of someone working on bikes and installing high end parts, please let me know, as the bikes may be parted out.
