ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE MEETINGS START THIS WEEK

<img width="160" height="60" align="left" src="http://www.baltimorespokes.org/images/articles/20060727101500701_1.jpg" alt="">Phase II of the Baltimore Region Environmental Justice in Transportation Project continues to move forward as three small groups convene this week and next.

The three groups, called case study teams, are the outcome of a community workshop, held on July 8, 2006 and will focus on the following areas:

Transit Service and Reliability

Congestion and Environment

Public Participation in the Transportation Planning Process

Each of these case study groups will now begin meeting to discuss the specific topic and location to be reviewed. A list of meeting dates and times are listed below. To join a case study team, please attend one of the upcoming meetings or contact the case study group leader.

Hit & run on Route 28 - Monocacy Bridge

This is from the Potomac Peddlers list serve if you have any information please let us know.

I am writing this on my behalf of my father, Dwight McNeill, an active biker in the Maryland area. My father was hit on his bike by a pick up truck carrying a horse trailer on Saturday, July 22nd, at approximately 8:00am. The accident occurred on Route 28 North just over the Dickerson/Frederick line and before the Monocacy bridge. The truck did NOT stop and was presumably on its way to the Maryland Horse Trials at Loch Moy Farm. My father has three broken vertebrae, a broken scapula and is covered in bruises and black and blues. He was transferred to a rehab center today where he will learn to walk again and care for himself independently. If you have any information or know of someone who does, my family would be greatly appreciative. Thank you!

Result: Bikers lose all will to live.&quot; And Paul Higgins position as &quot;Cyclists aren't fat, thus lower healthcare costs, providing money for carbon abatement. Result: Bikers save the world.&quot;

REI - Basic Bike Maintenance class

This is an informative class to learn the basics of bike repair such as how to lube a chain, fix a flat, and make minor adjustments. In addition, the clinic will properly explain the use of the front wheel quick release mechanism for tension and safety. A great lead-in class to other advanced bike maintenance classes.

Road rage diagnosed as mental disorder

CHICAGO (AP) -- To you, that angry, horn-blasting tailgater is suffering from road rage. But doctors have another name for it -- intermittent explosive disorder -- and a new study suggests it is far more common than they realized, affecting up to 16 million Americans.

...About 5 percent to 7 percent of the nationally representative sample had had the disorder, which would equal up to 16 million Americans. That is higher than better-known mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, Dr. Coccaro said.
