Ghost Bike for John R. Yates

Most of you know about the bicyclist that died this week at the corner of Lafayette and Maryland. A memorial Ghost Bike will be place at that intersection this Sunday, 8/9, a bit after 6:00 PM. For info on the memorial, go to www.ghostbikes.org;

All are welcome. The ghost bike is currently at Velocipede… but all involved consider this a gesture from the bicycling community and the larger Baltimore community, not from a single group.

Like most people I live a hectic life and who has the time for much exercise? Thanks to xtracycle now I do. By using my bike for daily activities I can get things done and get an hour plus work out in 15 minutes extra of my time, not a bad deal and beats taking the extra time going to the gym. In case you are still having trouble being motivated; the National Center of Disease Control says that inactivity is the #2 killer in the United States just behind smoking. ( http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/bb_nutrition/ ) Get out there and start living life! I can carry home a full shopping cart of groceries, car pool two kids or just get lost in the great outdoors camping for a week. Well I got go, another outing this weekend.

I will be there. may he rest in peace.
Bob W. and I plan to be there too.

I wrote to the nice people at ghostbikes.org, and they posted a page about the ghost bike, a page about John Yates, a spot on the map, and a listing in upcoming events.
Leah says:
"This the first we've heard of promoting the installation on the site, but we've added it here: http://www.ghostbikes.org/node/495
there's also a page for john yates here: http://www.ghostbikes.org/baltimore/john-r-yates
We were terribly sorry to hear about this awful tragedy and send our best wishes to the family and community. please let us know if you need anything else. you are welcome to send us stories and photos to add to john's page. please let us know as well if you or others in your group wish to be the local administrators for the baltimore site. best of luck with your project, and please let us know if we can further help you."

I was inspired by their "Reactions" page of testimonials: http://www.ghostbikes.org/reactions
I've volunteered to be an admnistrator for the Baltimore section, but let's hope we won't need more ghost bikes around here. See you Sunday.
Update: the previous comment about the posting on ghostbikes.org was by me, Teresa D. - I added my name but it showed up as "Authored by: Anonymous."
Teresa, Thanks so much for doing the Ghost Bike site! I really hope that we will not be sending you much to do. You have to create an account and be logged in to have your name show up on Baltimore Spokes, but that also gets you the daily newsletter (which you can configure to op out off.) Probably easier for you to remain "Anonymous" and just close a post with -Teresa D Give Bob lots of hugs for us and we will see you latter on in the day.
I don't have access to update ghostbikes.org yet, but I noticed the Baltimore Sun article this morning: http://tinyurl.com/lzqgko
