"24 Hours of Booty" sound like some stupid teen movie with no plot and no thought put into it. As for an event, I certainly do not care to attend anything with such a title; it should at least have a subtitle that explains what it is The only credibility I see at all regarding this thing is Lance Armstrong's name, and that isn't enough to get me interested in such a foully titled event. Someone was trying to be cute and get attention. Few know wordplay as well as I, and this is not quality promotion. I don't know what they are trying to pedal, but I am so disinterested by the gauche title that I am absolutely cranky. The promoter thinks he or she can yank our chains when they truly have lost their bearings. This tired near-sex talk leaves us flat while attempting to inflate an event in a manner that is anything but airtight. Promotion makes or breaks an event. I want nothing to do with anything called "24 Hours of Booty". It will probably flounder, and I have other fish to fry.
I'm sorry you feel that way. Personally I really like the name, but that could be because I have spent my professional life in PR. After 20 years of pitching the same old events I found the name to be very refreshing. I also took the time to read the story behind the name and I liked the fact that instead of "pedalling" something safer when they organized it they kept it in the spirit that it was originally created.

That being said I know enough to know you can't please everyone all of the time. You have every right not to attend, but trashing a non-profit just seems....well, not very nice.

Be sure to avoid my other favorite event - The Screw Cancer Event, http://www.ulmanfund.org/screwcancer/ I'm thinking that you won't like that either ;)

Happy Riding and Stay Safe!
hcbiker - I like the Screw Cancer thing better. Although doing so may cause a mutation and create a new STD. I wonder if you noticed that my last two paragraphs were all word play? I feel safe in guessing that the two posters after you missed it entirely. Pedal, crank, chain, tire, airtight. I'm in favor of anti-cancer events (although I wonder about their effectiveness; the money is probably minor compared to what grant writers sweat over and get) but I still think that the title is gauche. Of course, gauche is French for Left, and I suspect that most people in the bicycle community are more left wing than I and would subsequently prefer gauche. The title would be better for a benefit for Baby's footwear.
Flounder and fish too.
Your immediate and harsh response made me want to know more about this event and organization, and without question this is quite an event and everything is completely above board. Watch the video on the home page. They just raised one million dollars, for pete's sake! With that catchy name, and that affiliation with Lance Armstrong, I would bet this thing is going to take off big time. I'm signing up.
24 Hours of Booty? It appears that name sent Minnesnowtan heading for the hills, but that hilarious name had the exact opposite effect on me. I'm a cancer survivor, so I checked out the website. This looks like a very cool, well-established event, so I'm definitely registering to ride.
