Bike racks on buses

Senator Gladden thanks you for your concern regarding the need for bike racks on buses. The Senator agrees that there is a need for bike racks. She asked me to investigate the matter and respond to you on her behalf.

Attached to the e-mail you sent to Senator Gladden, was the response of Paul Widefeld, MTA Administrator. Mr. Widefeld explained that MTA is ordering buses with bike racks but needs more funding to retrofit existing buses.

During the special session, the legislators approved $400 million a year for transportation. Much of that money is earmarked for specific projects. However, a representative of Mr. Widefeld's office assured me that $1 million will be used for bike racks. It should be a year before this project is completed.

Senator Gladden thanks you for taking the time to share your concerns with her.

Sincerely,

Jacqueline M. Greenfield
Constituent Liaison
Senator Lisa A. Gladden

Like most people I live a hectic life and who has the time for much exercise? Thanks to xtracycle now I do. By using my bike for daily activities I can get things done and get an hour plus work out in 15 minutes extra of my time, not a bad deal and beats taking the extra time going to the gym. In case you are still having trouble being motivated; the National Center of Disease Control says that inactivity is the #2 killer in the United States just behind smoking. ( http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/bb_nutrition/ ) Get out there and start living life! I can carry home a full shopping cart of groceries, car pool two kids or just get lost in the great outdoors camping for a week. Well I got go, another outing this weekend.
