Master Plan for Cyclists considerations

TAKE EVEN MORE ACTION TO SUPPORT CYCLING IN BALTIMORE!

People often ask me how come Washington Metro area is doing more for cyclists then Baltimore. Hint number one: Bikes are not much of an issue here.

I guess I hang out with the wrong crowd or no one has attempted what I am about to attempt and that is making cycling an issue.

So if you are interested in making cycling an issue and joining me in uncharted territory...

Since Washington does have a higher population then Baltimore I calculated where we should be [s/b] using the ratio of populations and then our percentage of attainment of that figure:

Washington

Baltimore

# of bike lane miles

19

Approximately 5 miles - Fort Avenue, Kelly Avenue and on-street portion of Gwynns Falls Trail [s/b 17- 29%]

# of off road trail miles

50

Approximately 20 miles - Gwynns Falls Trail, Jones Falls Trail, Herring Run Trail [s/b 44- 45%]

# Bike Racks

500
