Bike Jam Once Again Apart of the National Race Calendar

<img width="160" height="45" align="left" src="" alt="">Baltimore, MD - USA Cycling has announced that Bike Jam featuring the Kelly Cup, Baltimore's only professional cycling race, is apart of the 2006 National Racing Calendar. This marks the third straight year that Bike Jam has been on the calendar. The National Race Calendar, now in its 10th season, features 45 events in 2006 and represents a collection of the most prestigious road cycling events on American soil. The 2006 version of the event will take place on Saturday, May 27.

&quot;We are really excited, as this will be the third consecutive year that BikeJam will be on the National Race Calendar,&quot; stated race director Dr. David Scharff. &quot;We are on our way to having Pro Bicycle Racing being an institution here in Baltimore, and having our festival be one the annual favorites like ArtScape and Bookfest.&quot;

BikeJam featuring the Kelly Cup, the Mid-Atlantic's largest cycling festival, consists of 12 road races for riders from beginner to professional. The one-mile road course has become a favorite among racers. Held in historic Patterson Park near Baltimore's famed Inner Harbor, the course is flat and fast but contains slight elevation changes and a few turns to add to the excitement.

The highlight of the day is the Kelly Cup Men's Pro Race, which is a 40-lap jaunt around Patterson Park, and features some of the world's best professional cyclists. Last year, Aaron Olson held off teammate Mark McCormack to take home the title in front of over 3,000 spectators.

&quot;Bike Jam, featuring the Kelly Cup has been a big win for our organization for many reasons. It an important value for us to be involved in our community supporting events like Bike Jam, and we see cycling as a sport and activity most people can enjoy,&quot; remarked John Kelly, President and Senior Consultant of Kelly Benefit Strategies. &quot;With healthcare costs continuing to escalate, as a leader in helping companies design, manage and administer employee benefit plans, we believe the ultimate solution involves compelling Americans to embrace a healthier lifestyle, and cycling can be a part of that.&quot;

Bike Jam, now in its eighth year, features not only races, but also a recreational bike ride, interactive games for the kids, live music from local bands, product sampling, a bike stunt show and an expo with all the latest cycling gear.

Bike Jam is produced by Lateral Stress Velo and Corrigan Sports Enterprises, a leader in sports promotions in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. region. Founded in 1991, CSE owns and operates the following events: Under Armour Baltimore Marathon, the Charm City Challenge All-Star Basketball Game, the Capital Classic, the Toyota Pro Beach Volleyball Series, the Scion Trash &amp; Jam (Extreme Sports) and Bike Jam.
