Explore Columbia - Family Bike Club and Adult Walking Club (Columbia, MD) - Meetup

Explore Columbia inspires and motivates people of all ages to explore the Columbia paths and Howard County trails by bike and on foot.

We are two social recreational clubs: a biking club for families and a walking club for adults. Anyone who enjoys the outdoors and would like to explore the extensive network of paths within our community is welcome to join us. We are a diverse group for all paces and ability levels.

All walks and bike rides are guided. Our emphasis is on fun, camaraderie and friendship!

About the Kids Bike Club.
Biking with your family is fun! Family bike rides are of different lengths to accommodate families with different age kids. Typically rides are for these age groups: 5 - 6, 7 -9, 10-12 and 13 - 15. All rides will be on the paths and side streets of Columbia. One parent must attend with kids. HELMETS are REQUIRED. We’ll visit streams, lakes, and local points of interest. Younger age groups will visit playgrounds and older age groups will do longer routes that go through tunnels and use pedestrian bridges. Safe cycling and your child's enjoyment of bicycling is our top priority! Parents please read the PAGES section for more on what to expect.

About the Adult Walking Club and adult bike rides.
Walking with friends is fun! Now you can exploreimage different Columbia neighborhoods and even visit the neighborhood bakery. Walks will be on different days and times and of different lengths. Find a group of walkers convenient to your schedule. We will have groups of seniors, stroller moms (and dads), adults and even singles. Some groups may go for coffee or food and drink afterwards.   Please read the PAGES section for more info.  If there is interest we may also do casual paced adult bike rides occasionally.

Like most people I live a hectic life and who has the time for much exercise? Thanks to xtracycle now I do. By using my bike for daily activities I can get things done and get an hour plus work out in 15 minutes extra of my time, not a bad deal and beats taking the extra time going to the gym. In case you are still having trouble being motivated; the National Center of Disease Control says that inactivity is the #2 killer in the United States just behind smoking. ( http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/bb_nutrition/ ) Get out there and start living life! I can carry home a full shopping cart of groceries, car pool two kids or just get lost in the great outdoors camping for a week. Well I got go, another outing this weekend.
