They look neat, like a bike only more of a pain in the arse. I can't imagine crawling into one of those things on a hot summer day.
I enjoy biking because of the fresh air, the wind in my face, even when it's 30degrees outside. I think you would lose that street level awareness that cyclists gain. It would greatly diminish your ability to bypass traffic. You can't ride it right up to the front of the store, or cafe, and lock it to a pole. It looks like you can't even haul that much in it! I'll betcha a Surly Big Dummy can out haul one of these Velomobiles.
Please don't think I am trying to make you feel bad, I actually think they are pretty neat. Maybe it would suit your needs better than mine. But traveling on a "traditional" two wheeld bike is a thrill that in my opinion, it cannot be improved upon.
ps. I'd love to take a spin in one.
From a Bike Washington reader:
Have you tried WHIRL? Washington's Happily Independent Recumbent
Lovers? I am very interested as well, but would have to build one.
I'm working without a keyboard here but get back to me and I hope we
can share information. I have talked to a guy up there who is
building a tilting trike.
