MD 25 - Falls Road construction


As part of our ongoing highway maintenance program, the State Highway Administration (SHA) is beginning a project to repair, resurface and improve safety along approximately 16 miles of MD 25 (Falls Road) between the I-695 interchange and Mount Carmel Road . Five segments of Falls Road will be repaired, milled and repaved during the next several months as weather conditions permit. The entire $4 million project is slated for completion in late Spring 2009.

Nighttime work is underway on the first segment, from I-695 to north of Seminary Avenue . Lane closures with flagging operations will occur nightly Sunday - Thursday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. (Repairs, Milling and Repaving Fall 2008)
The second segment is from north of Seminary Avenue to Padonia Road . Lane closures with flagging operations will occur daily Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. (Repairs Fall 2008, Milling and Paving Spring 2009)

The third segment is from Padonia Road to Shawan Road . Lane closures with flagging operations will occur daily Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. (Repairs Fall 2008; Milling and Paving Spring 2009)

The fourth segment is from Shawan Road to Stringtown Road . Lane closures with flagging operations will occur daily Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. (Repairs Fall 2008; Milling and Paving Spring 2009)

The fifth segment is from Stringtown Road to Mount Carmel Road . Lane closures with flagging operations will occur daily Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. (Repairs Fall 2008; Milling and Paving Spring 2009)

Like most people I live a hectic life and who has the time for much exercise? Thanks to xtracycle now I do. By using my bike for daily activities I can get things done and get an hour plus work out in 15 minutes extra of my time, not a bad deal and beats taking the extra time going to the gym. In case you are still having trouble being motivated; the National Center of Disease Control says that inactivity is the #2 killer in the United States just behind smoking. ( http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/bb_nutrition/ ) Get out there and start living life! I can carry home a full shopping cart of groceries, car pool two kids or just get lost in the great outdoors camping for a week. Well I got go, another outing this weekend.

Our Letter: Mr. Andre Futrell, I am inquiring about accommodating bicyclists during and after construction on Falls Road as required by state law.[1] If I may make a few requests. During constriction: * All transitions between different height road surfaces be ramped and not square. * Warning signs placed before hazards to bicyclists (i.e. Uneven Road Surface) * Warning signs will not be placed in the path of bicyclists (blocking the shoulder or curb lane.) * If at all possible safety barrels that block a lane for road crews leave at least 4 feet of space for bicyclists and not unnecessarily take up a full lane forcing bicyclist into the travel lane. After Construction: * At least a 3' curb lane (4'-5' preferred) as an option for bicyclists as well as to calm traffic. As Falls Rd is a designated road to accommodate bicycles as required by Federal Law I assume you will do your best to keep our safety in mind and improve current conditions for bicyclists. The General Assembly finds that it is in the public interest for the State to include enhanced transportation facilities for pedestrians and bicycle riders as an essential component of the State's transportation system, and declares that it is the policy of the State that: (1) Access to and use of transportation facilities by pedestrians and bicycle riders shall be considered and best engineering practices regarding the needs of bicycle riders and pedestrians shall be employed in all phases of transportation planning, including highway design, construction, reconstruction, and repair as well as expansion and improvement of other transportation facilities; (2) The modal administrations in the Department shall ensure that the State maintains an integrated transportation system by working cooperatively to remove barriers, including restrictions on bicycle access to mass transit, that impede the free movement of individuals from one mode of transportation to another; and (3) As to any new transportation project or improvement to an existing transportation facility, the Department shall work to ensure that transportation options for pedestrians and bicycle riders will be enhanced and that pedestrian and bicycle access to transportation facilities will not be negatively impacted by the project or improvement.
