Stolen Bike

From: Amber Blake

Hello!

My bike was stolen from the garage at the Baltimore Metropolitan Council. It is an electric blue Orbea, with silver writing. (Road Bike), it has a carbon fiber fork, black handle bar tape, Dura-Ace components.
If anyone sees it can you please contact me? It's not your run of the mill bike so it will be pretty easy to spot.

I have video footage of the guy stealing the bike, and he left a bike he rode in on with his prints all over it (unlocked) in the garage. The city police wont look at the footage (Bldg security put it on a flash drive for them), nor will they dust the bike he left for prints. The value of the bike makes the crime a felony (grand theft -bicycle).
Also, if anyone has any suggestions as to what other steps I should take please let me [us] know.

Thanks!

Amber Blake

Like most people I live a hectic life and who has the time for much exercise? Thanks to xtracycle now I do. By using my bike for daily activities I can get things done and get an hour plus work out in 15 minutes extra of my time, not a bad deal and beats taking the extra time going to the gym. In case you are still having trouble being motivated; the National Center of Disease Control says that inactivity is the #2 killer in the United States just behind smoking. ( http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/bb_nutrition/ ) Get out there and start living life! I can carry home a full shopping cart of groceries, car pool two kids or just get lost in the great outdoors camping for a week. Well I got go, another outing this weekend.

why wont the police look at the footage? btw, i had a bike stolen from inner harbor right below a CCTV security camera. the officer who wrote tje report for me told me to get in touch with my insurance and that he doesnt have access to the CCTV cameras.... the bike hasnt been recovered since....
Why don't you edit the footage and post it on youtube? That might make the Baltimore PD take more of interest in recovering the bike. The fact that they wouldn't even dust for prints or look at the footage suggests to me that they are just being lazy.
That's completely outrageous that they won't investigate the crime. Is there any authority you can go to to complain about the Baltimore police not investigating a crime? Your congressional representative, either state legislature or national? City council? If the bike is insured, the insurance company will likely want to put pressure on them to investigate, or perhaps they will hire their own investigator. Do the Baltimore police have a record of not investigating car thefts as well?
I was a victim recently as well... I have tried to be as "realistic" about it as I can. I gave in and bought a replacement. In my case the police came and did a report. They said all the right things and even suggested some additional security measures. In the end. I know they will do nothing to recover the bike. In the grand scheme of things, with all the other bigger and more "hurtful" crime out there. They just "cannot" care about our bikes. No excuse and as tax payers we should get better service, but... until we change our city to the extent that a bike theft can be a priority we who have more will continue to provide for those who have less and are willing to steal.....
Hello, I am sorry to hear about your stolen bike. I am a reporter for The Baltimore Examiner, and an avid cyclist myself. I am looking for someone to speak with me about their views on cycling as transportation in Baltimore. Why do it? Is there enough support from the city to do it? Do we need to invest in more bike paths? Etc... Thanks so much for any responses. I can be emailed at elysha.krupp@baltimoreexaminer.com
