After reading many posts about hostility toward cyclists from motorists and others, I wanted to pass along a positive experience I had last night.

I rode my bike to meet friends for dinner at Eggspectations, a restaurant in downtown Silver Spring. I pulled the bike up to an outside stair railing that seemed like the best available option for locking up when one of the waitresses came out and urged me to bring the bike into the restaurant. She explained that she rides her bike everywhere and often has trouble finding a safe place to lock it up. She showed me a side room off the main dining area where I could leave my bike while eating.

After dinner, I tracked down the manager and told him how much I appreciated the bike-friendly attitude. Turns out he is a cycling enthusiast, too, and he told me that he had a bike stolen when it was locked up outside a business while he was running an errand, so he understands the need for secure bike parking.

I wouldn't encourage anyone to bring a bunch of cyclists to Eggspectations after a group ride and assume there would be room for everyone's bike in the restaurant, but you certainly couldn't ask for a more bike-friendly staff and management -- and the food was good, too!
