Bike racks on buses

From John Porcari With regard to buses, MTA has begun to retrofit its bus fleet with front-mounted bicycle racks. This effort will occur in stages: procurement and installation of the racks; evaluation of increased bus parking requirements due to the additional space needed for racks; modification of work rules for drivers and mechanics to ensure that damage during day-to-day operations is minimized; revision of our published bike policy to establish rules, responsibilities and risks for riders; and work with the bicycle advocacy to publicize the new racks. Our timeframe to complete this work is approximately 12 months.

Thank you, again, for your correspondence. The Governor appreciates hearing from you and, on his behalf, I also thank you for your interest in this very important issue. If you have any additional questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. John Newton, MTA

Like most people I live a hectic life and who has the time for much exercise? Thanks to xtracycle now I do. By using my bike for daily activities I can get things done and get an hour plus work out in 15 minutes extra of my time, not a bad deal and beats taking the extra time going to the gym. In case you are still having trouble being motivated; the National Center of Disease Control says that inactivity is the #2 killer in the United States just behind smoking. ( http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/bb_nutrition/ ) Get out there and start living life! I can carry home a full shopping cart of groceries, car pool two kids or just get lost in the great outdoors camping for a week. Well I got go, another outing this weekend.
