100% Wind-Generated Electricity for your home in Maryland

In the past, electric utilities such as BGE were tightly regulated by state laws. You could buy power only from your local utility and only at the price set by the state's Public Service Commission (PSC).

Now a number of states - including Maryland - have changed the laws and regulations that govern the electric industry. These changes are part of deregulation. This doesn't mean there will be no regulation. It means competition and customer choice will occur on the electric supply side of the industry. With deregulation, a number of electric suppliers are allowed to compete for your business.

There are four electric suppliers approved by the Maryland Public Service Commission and qualified by BGE to offer residential electric. They are:

Commerce Energy

Dominion Retail

Horizon Power and Light, LLC

Washington Gas Energy Services

Of these four, only Commerce Energy and Washington Gas Energy Services offer 100% clean energy alternatives.

Like mortgages and heating oil, the cost at which you can lock-in a year's supply of clean electricity varies weekly or biweekly. Generally the price is slightly higher than electric power offered by BGE.

You can sign up for Commerce Energy's 100% wind energy program on their web site, but the rate offered by Steve Ritnour, one of their salesmen, is usually lower (less expensive).
